Favaios

There is a lot of exciting stuff going on in the stars

Favaios is synonymous with Moscatel. This Douro wine-growing village has welcomed this grape variety like no other in the world, praised for its intense aroma. A dedication reciprocated. The Moscatel grape has adapted to Favaios with great harmony.

The wine-growing village of Favaios is part of the Douro World Heritage, part of Portugal and part of Moscatel.

The delicious aroma and acidity of Moscatel de Favaios are unparalleled.

The Favaios plateau is different from the rest of the Douro Demarcated Region. In Favaios, the steep mountain slopes typical of the Douro give way to gently sloping vineyards, without the need for stone wall terraces. The soils are less rocky, with greater depth and fertility. The typical Douro schist is still present in some areas, but the soils are mainly clay-based.

The cool climate, enhanced by frequent fog and dew, along with the soil characteristics, provides the Moscatel grape with an ideal terroir. The same grape, planted elsewhere, does not produce the same Moscatel. The delightful aroma and acidity of Moscatel from Favaios are unique.

It is from this grape and this place that the life of the Favaios Cooperative Winery is made. Moscatel is also synonymous with Adega de Favaios.
