Adega de Favaios' Espumante "Best of Portugal"
The Espumante Adega de Favaios Grande Reserva 2013 is Portugal’s breakthrough wine and ranks among the top five in the world.
Nearly a thousand sparkling wines from 25 countries were in competition. The high level of competition adds to the surprise of the results, revealed last Friday. Among the top five in the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles dedicated to this category of wines is the Espumante Adega de Favaios Grande Reserva 2013, alongside two French sparkling wines, one Italian, and one Spanish.
The “Breakthrough Sparkling Wine of Portugal” trophy, Grand Gold Medal, is the latest recognition of the quality of wines from Adega de Favaios. Additionally, this spring 2023, the Casa Velha Grande Reserva 2019 won the award for the best white wine of the Douro at the Mundus Vini international competition.
This award also reflects Adega de Favaios’s ability to give its sparkling wine time to age in the bottle for many years. This maturation and refinement period imparts great complexity and finesse to the sparkling wine.
Muscat Wines Also Awarded
It is worth noting that the early months of 2023 have further reinforced both the international and national recognition of the quality of Adega de Favaios’s Muscat wines, its most emblematic product. The Moscatel Colheita 1989 was among the top 10 Portuguese wines in one of Portugal’s most prestigious tastings, the TOP 10 from Essência do Vinho/Revista de Vinhos. Meanwhile, Moscatel de Favaios Colheita 1999 and Porto Monge 20 Years received the highest honor at the Mundus Vini competition, the Grand Gold Medal, in this spring’s edition.
Adega de Favaios is the leading producer of Muscats in the Douro Demarcated Region (80%) and a leader in the national market (52%). In addition to its Muscat heritage, the Adega produces DOC Douro wines, rosés, whites, reds, and sparkling wines, and is currently preparing investments to expand its facilities, focusing on these ranges, particularly the whites that benefit from the cooler conditions of the Favaios plateau.
RELAVANT NEWS
Favaios records an increase in the harvest of Moscatel grapes in the 2022 vintage. The cooler climate of the plateau justifies this growth, contrary to what was expected for the Demarcated Douro Region.
